Immanuel-God Is With Us For Our Unique Purpose.

God has a unique purpose for each and every one of us. Don reminds us how to learn about our unique purpose at Christmas.

Unique

Talking About Immanuel

Over the Christmas season, we are talking about Immanuel – God is with us. It is so wonderful. But you know, God being with us, is not just at Christmas. God is with us for all of our life… with us as we enter into the new year.

When you become saved, when you trust Christ as your Savior, God does not just say, “well, now you’re saved, wait for heaven and put us on the shelf.” No, He saves us with a unique purpose for us. It takes time to understand, to know where God wants us, what He wants us to do, how He wants us to do it, what unique niche we fulfill and fit in; and that will come.

I want to encourage you; God is with you. Remember His special presence, and His special presence is with us for special benefits and the one we want to talk about is His special presence is with us for our unique purpose. God has a purpose and a plan for your life, but He’s not set you on your own just to try to, you know, gut it out in your own strength. He’s with us. He’s for us. He will guide us, and, in His strength, we can accomplish His purpose that He has for us.

Moses

You know, Moses is a wonderful example of this…

“Therefore come now and I will send you.” Exodus 3:10

God is saying this to Moses, He said, “I’m going to send you to Pharaoh.” That’s probably the last person in the world Moses wanted to see, and He says,

“so that you may bring my people, the sons of Israel out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:10

What a purpose! Over the top! That’s why Moses said to God,

“who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt? Exodus 3:11

And he said, “I am not up for this. This is way too beyond me!” But then God said to Moses in verse 12,

“certainly I will be with you.”

Counting on God’s Presence

I will be with you. Certainly, you can count on this. This is for sure God’s presence for the benefit of providing Moses to fulfill his unique purpose that God had for him.

Now we’re not Moses, but God has a purpose for us too. Now the same thing was found in Moses’s successor, Joshua; the Lord is encouraging Joshua, he’s going to lead the people. Moses will be taken to be with the Lord, and now Joshua will be in charge of the people of Israel. In Joshua 1:5 it says,

“no man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses,” Joshua 1:5

God said,

“I will be with you, Joshua. I will not fail you or forsake you.” Joshua 1:5

Now we enter into this new year and there’s going to be some challenges, even if we’re going God’s path and doing God’s will, there are challenges. We need to be confident that the Lord is with us, and He will not fail us.

“Be strong and courageous,” Joshua 1:9

God says to him.

“Do not tremble or be dismayed. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Our Need For Encouragement

You know, we need that encouragement. We’re all people going in different ways, accomplishing different things. We have unique purposes, but God is going to be with us. He is going to be with you wherever you go, when you’re walking in His will. He is with you. He is for you. His benefits will abound toward you to fulfill the unique purpose He has.

Knowing God’s purpose for you involves understanding your character and your gifts, so you can know where He wants you to go. Part of that is preparing ourselves; being faithful, growing in the Lord. So, we’re we have the strength and the wisdom to know how God wants us to track down the path He has for us.

Part of our purpose includes Matthew 28:18-20,

Jesus is speaking to His followers, and He says in verse 19,

“go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

One has said,

“The power for the commission of making disciples is the spiritual presence of Christ.”

Love People

Now part of our path is that we are to be a people, as Christians, we are to be a people who love people around us. Lost people as well as believing people. Lost people that they might come to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior.

So, we want to share the truth where it may be a little by little, or it may be a gospel tract. It may be a specific statement we make. It may be sitting down and talking to them, but our desire is that they might come to trust Christ for their salvation.

But that is not the end, that is, but the beginning and then we want them to become healthy disciples, healthy followers of the Lord Jesus. But it takes a lot of learning, and so we’re in this mission with our purpose.

Sharing Christ

Part of our purpose includes sharing Christ. For those who come to faith, we help, encourage, and build them up in the ways of the Lord Jesus, in the person of Christ, and all that He has for them. The things that God has taught you, you pass on to them. We share the Word of God with them, so they grow in the Lord. We build them up. They because become strong in the Lord, and God is with us to fill our purpose with that commission and with the other tasks that He has for us. God is with us.

The Path Ahead and Your Unique Purpose

You know, as we enter into this new year and as we think of the path ahead of us, of the journey before us we don’t know exactly how it’s going to unfold. In fact, there’s a lot that we don’t have a clue of as we enter in the new year. But let me assure you, God has a purpose for you. God has reason for you being here. God wants to fulfill His purpose through your unique life. God’s presence is with you and for you to fulfill your purpose. May we count on Him being with us; Immanuel- God is with us. May we remember He will never forsake us.

Ah, may you have a wonderful journey. May you remember you’re not alone as you travel the road God has for you.

My Dad’s Death

I’ve shared this story in the past; some years back I received a call; my brother told me that my dad had died. I knew my dad’s health was very vulnerable and it wasn’t a total surprise, but it still was a shock. My heart was broken. I loved my dad. As soon as I could, I got on a plane and I’m flying home. I wanted to get there as soon as I could and as I was on that plane, I remember that feeling of being so alone.

You know, Dad was somebody you could turn to and say, dad, what about this? Or he would always be there to help if I needed help. You know, he was, like, kind of this pillar. And I think, “he’s gone.” And I felt alone. But you know, it was as if the Lord reminded me, “I am with you. I am with you.” That was such a comfort. That was such a help. And that is true for all of us who know the Lord Jesus. He is with us and He, by His presence and His Amazing Grace, will empower us to fulfill His purpose for us.

May we go into this new year confident that God is with us, and He will never forsake us. May each one of us experience God’s best as we fulfill His purpose; allow Him to work in and through us. May He truly be honored and glorified as we enter and walk through this new year, remembering; Immanuel – God is with us. May that encourage each of our hearts.
