Jesus, the One and Only Saviour.

The only Saviour of mankind is Jesus. All other great heroes fall far, far short. Brian Stapley compares a few heroes with Jesus, the one and only Saviour.

Jesus Gets More Space

We know that Jesus was a real person in history. The Encyclopedia Britannica used 20,000 words to describe Jesus, more space than was given to Aristotle, Cicero, Alexander, Julius Caesar, Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, and Napoleon Bonaparte.

Aristotle

Let’s think about those other famous people. Aristotle: His ideas spread by spoken word and on paper.  Jesus was the Word expressed in human flesh. Aristotle’s ideas, even he would say, were very imperfectly expressed by his words. Jesus was the perfect expression of God.

Cicero

Cicero was a great orator, but even the enemies of Jesus said,

“No one ever spoke like this man.” (John 7:46)

Cicero had a great vocabulary. Jesus is God’s vocabulary:

“In these last days (God) has spoken to us by his Son.” (Heb. 1:2)

Alexander the Great

Alexander the Great was buried with his hands out of the coffin to show he took nothing out of this world.  Alexander’s treasures were not transportable; Jesus treasures were in people, and he will take them from this world to the next.

“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. (John 14:3)

Julius the Caesar

Julius Caesar will not receive an ounce of tribute money in heaven, but Revelation 4:10 tells us,

“The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne (Jesus) … and cast their crowns before the throne.”

Famous Religious Leaders

Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed were famous religious leaders, but none of them rose from the dead, none is seated at God’s right hand and none had all the fullness of the Godhead dwelling in him.

Napoleon

Here are Napoleon’s own words about Jesus:

“Everything in Christ astonishes me. His spirit overawes me, and his will confounds me. Between him and whoever else in the world, there is no possible term of comparison. The nearer I approach, the more carefully I examine, everything is above me – everything remains grand, of a grandeur which overpowers. I search in vain in history to find (anyone like) Jesus Christ.”

Jesus

 He came down – that we might be caught up.                 (1 Thess. 4:16, 17)   

 He became poor – that we might become rich.                (2 Cor. 8:9, Jas. 2:5).

 He was born – that we might be born again.                   (John 1:14, 3:2,7).

 He became a servant – so we might become sons.           (Phil 2:7; Gal 4:6,7).

 He had no home – so we might have a home in heaven.   (Mt.8:20;Jn 14:2).

 He was hungry – that we might be fed.                          (Matt. 4:2; John 6:50).

 He was thirsty – that we might be satisfied.                    (John 19:26).

 He was stripped – that we might be clothed.                   (Matt. 27:28; Gal. 3:27).

 He was forsaken – that we might not be forsaken.           (Matt. 27:26; 28:20).

 He was sad –  that we might become glad.                     (Isa. 53:3; Phil. 4:4).

 He was bound that we might go free.                            (Matt. 27:2; Jn 8:32-36).

 He was made sin – that we might be made righteous.      (1 Cor. 5:21).

 He died – that we might live.                                        (Jn 5:24, 25).

 He is “The One and Only Jesus”.
