God Is My Pilot.
How can know God is my pilot . Carol shares a selection of scriptures to remind us of God’s great care for us.
Allowing God to Be Our Pilot
If we have allowed God to be our pilot and moved ourselves over to be the co-pilot, what should that look like in our lives?
I read this quote but do not know who wrote it. “God’s plans for your life far exceed the circumstances of your day.”
In Is 46:4 it says,
“I have made you and will carry you. I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
Is God Your Co-Pilot?
First let’s look at what we see and do If God is your co-pilot
We see God as our assistant.
- Assisting in our salvation
- Yet He paid the price – He accomplished it all – we need only to accept
- Assisting in navigating life’s crisis
- Assisting in resisting temptation
- He will make a way to escape – not assist us in finding it
- Assisting in making decisions
- This one can be tough as we think sometimes that some decisions are too small or that God expects us to use our brains and come up with the answers on our own
- He waits for us to listen to his still small voice and be available where he sends
- Assisting in my success
- Assisting in – fill in your own thoughts in this blank.
- We live with the misconception that God won’t give us more than we can handle
- All of life is more than we can handle on our own
- The point of living in this fallen world is not for us to try really hard to carry our heavy burdens but rather realize we can’t do it alone and surrender to God instead.
In the tough times, those storms of life, the turbulence, only God, the Creator of the universe, the one who never slumbers or sleeps is the one who can calm the storm and help us through it. He helps us grow stronger. But the choice is ours to accept his control or to try and fix things ourselves
Surrendering the Controls
Let’s look for a few minutes at what surrendering the controls to God should look like in our lives. In Exodus 3: 14 God gives Moses His name to tell the children of Israel. God says for Moses to tell them I AM sent you. It is present tense. Not God was at some point in the past or he will come and be with you later in the future but he is present in the here and now.
God says I AM and throughout scripture we see how he demonstrates to people He is the one who is their strength, hope, peace, provider, wisdom, and salvation. In other words, God is everything you or I could ever need.
What Do You Need?
What do you need today? Wisdom, patience, provision, compassion, tough love, or strength. Maybe you need multiple things. I know I need all of these at some point in time and often more than one at any given time.
Whatever you need, I AM is and He will supply.
Phil 3: 19 says, “My God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in Christ Jesus.”
Why, then, would we want to have him in any other place but the pilot’s seat of our lives?
Psalm 121: 8 says, “I keep watch over you as you come and go both now and forever.”
God will never fail we read in 1 Peter 4: 19
God will answer your prayers
God will supply all your needs
God will be there for you every step of the way
BUT it won’t always look like what you expect.
Unexpected Answers to Prayer
Have you ever prayed for something and the answer didn’t look like you expected? I know I have. What does a surrendered life look like? How do we draw close to Jesus.
- Matthew 27:37-39
- Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind
- Spend time in God’s word
- Mary and Martha – Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus – listening and learning, putting aside the distractions that grab our attention
- Love letter – not reading it because you have to
- Not reading it simply to check off how much you read but savouring it – like a love letter but because we are obsessed with God – getting to know him better – because we love him
- Learn to recognize his voice
- It takes spending time with someone to recognize their voice. It is no different with God.
- Listening and obeying
- Be available
- Don’t know what it will look like always. The Bible tells us about so many who obeyed God’s instructions and God won the victory but they differed in how that looked.
- There are things that we know from God’s word that our lives should look like because he is helping us
- The one anothers
- Be kind to one another
- Forgive one another
- Pray for one another
- Bear one another’s burdens
- Love one another
- The one anothers
- Col 3:12-14, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another, Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
- Be available
5.We need to let go of the life we planned because we can’t see the way ahead and embrace the life God has planned for us. Doesn’t mean we just sit back passively, just that we need to be ready and available for the direction he gives and trust him with the results
Philippians 1: 6 says, “He who has begun a good work in you will carry it out to completion.”
In 2 Timothy 1:12 we read, “For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto him against that day.”
