Why Believers Should Stand Together In Complete Unity

Why is it important for believers to stand together in complete unity? Janis shares her thoughts on how Christians can show God’s love by living in complete unity.

A Reminder Of How To Live As Believers

I have been humming the praise song, “I Will Walk”, by Robin Mark. I have been singing this song in my head for 2 weeks now. I love especially “You love them all”. These words are a great reminder of how to live in this world.

Complete Unity:

For Lent this year I have been studying the Gospel of John.

John Chapter 17 is powerful. I read through this at least 3 times. Jesus prays for Himself, for His disciples and for those who will believe in Him because of His message and that all of them may be one. Listen to verses 21 and 22:

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

John 17:21-22

This is my Easter message-That all believers can be one and in doing that the world will believe in God.

Believers As One In Complete Unity

I have been reading through a book called Christian History Made Easy by Timothy Paul Jones. On every page I say to myself, “oh my goodness.” Or no not again. The battles, the arguments, the killings. I’m reading now through the 19th Century.

Jesus prayed that we may all be one. What I have read has shown the opposite.

From the Resurrection onward we have struggled with His message. The world intruded. Hate, greed, and power became part of the Message. And these are Christians arguing and hurting one another. And rules – more rules. As Jesus told us – the two commandments are love God and love one another.

Believers Should Stand Together

So let’s open our hearts to hear from Jesus and not man. Now it is true that many Christians during this time went back to the Scriptures. They also prayed. There were times of change and even peace. But I read of so many martyrs.  And why? Because of arguments over rules and interference from those in power.

But despite this messiness, we have managed, thanks to the power of the Holy Spirit to pass down faith to the next generation. Let’s continue to spread the seeds of the Gospel.

This Easter, we who believe the Apostle’s Creed, let’s stand together in praise and worship. Let’s stand together in prayer.

May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts with the Word of Truth.

I Will Walk

Listen to the words from Robin Mark’s song that have been given to me by permission to share with you:

The chorus starts with.

And I will walk with You,
And I will find a way to show Your Word is truth
And none shall fear, but all will know
The measure of our Father’s endless love

Then each verse brings us closer to God:

Consider all the works Your hands have made
The great and small, from sea to mountain range
The passion of our great Creator King
Whose glory shines in all created things

And on the Earth, for nation, tribe and tongue
Amazing grace, extends to every one
You love them all, it was for these you died
That all who call, will find eternal life

Give me the faith that makes a mountain move, and to believe the gospels power to save.
To run this race, to run and not grow faint, and some to save, in Jesus’ mighty name

Listen again to the chorus.

And I will walk with You,
And I will find the way to show your Word is truth
And none shall fear, but all will know
The glory of the Father’s endless love

Jesus’ Words on Unity

In John 17:23 , Jesus is speaking.

May they (Believers) be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.”

John 17:23
