God’s Children- We Are Part Of The Royal Family Of God

Did you know that as one of God’s children, you are part of a Royal Family? Wendy reminds us that we are connected to a living King!

Unsolved Mysteries

Unsolved mysteries have an allure for me. Which is why I suppose I enjoy reading or watching a good cozy mystery. I crave to see justice served, and I crave to figure out the answer to the question of “Who dunnit?”

God's Children

A few years ago I found out a relative of mine was working on a mystery regarding our family tree. She apparently uncovered some details that suggested our family may have some royal ancestry in the not too distant past.

She said something about an adoption and how there may have been a twin who was given up to thwart any potential for two simultaneous heirs to the throne. The strong family resemblance between one of our relatives and a particular royal family only added to her suspicions.

A Royal Surprise

I grew excited as I found myself hopeful that plain old ordinary me might suddenly climb to the top of the social ladder when my earthly status changed from stay-at-home-mama to Lady Wendy. My heart began to race like I’d had an extra cup of coffee, and the contentedness I’d had before the phone call in just being me flew out window of our country home that was known as a “perpetual renovation project” by the local building department.

Maybe we’ll be able to hire someone to finish this place to perfection.

As my thoughts darted over a dozen ideas of what having royal blood may mean, I began to dislike how I felt. I craved to feel the peace I had before the stupid mystery had been revealed to me. I craved to be content with my lot instead of wishing for a lot more than we already had.

A Whisper and a Tug in my heart encouraged me to be still. I relinquished myself to the still small voice, and God reminded me I was already going to have a royally perfect home.

The Royal Family Of God

Jesus has gone, as promised, to prepare a place for His followers whom He calls family and friends. I don’t need any royal relatives. The Lord says I’m already connected to a Royal Family—His. When I die, I will live in my Heavenly Father’s Celestial City. He’s even promised a crown for me if I continue the race until the end. And He’s promised to accompany me during this life marathon and never to leave me or give up on me.

I’d say there’s no mystery about my lineage that needs to be solved. It’s better to be well-connected to a living King than to be related to a dead one.

Romans 8: 14-18 says:

“Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

Living As God’s Children

One of the things I love about Jesus is who He tended to hang out with. He hung out with the humble and broken people. His eyes were open to those who were hungry for his healing hand to touch them and unbind them from the sin and sickness that kept them at the bottom of society.

Jesus, though He was God in the flesh, didn’t show preference to those of the higher class the way we tend to. When others were quick and ready to cast stones of condemnation at others, Jesus was slow to anger and quick to forgive.

And the more I think about who He hung out with, the more I realize that who we’re willing to reach out to says a lot about who we’re related to. If we’re truly sons and daughters of the Most High, we should be more than willing to mingle and minister to the outcasts and forgotten of society. Widows, orphans, and prisoners need to be remembered. The lonely in our neighborhoods are the neighbors we should be loving on.

Our Royal Father’s Eyes

I never did hear back from my relative about the mystery of potential royal blood in our family. So I suspect it turned out to be a false hypothesis. And that’s okay with me because I’m already connected to the everlasting King. Now I need to listen to what He would have me  do so that His resemblance is clearly visible in my thoughts, words, and deeds.

I want to have my royal Father’s eyes to see those in need around me.

Have you got our Father’s eyes?
