The Person of Jesus Christ and Eternal Life
Who was Jesus Christ? What did He know about Heaven and Hell? Can Jesus Christ save us for all eternity? Are the words of Jesus reliable?

Is There Life After Death?
In these podcasts, we are asking the question, is there life after death? Perhaps you are wondering that or thinking about that?
In the previous podcast we talked about the Bible and its claims about life and death.
The Bible speaks about where we came from, why we’re here, where humanity is headed, and where you will be after. We looked at the fact that the Bible is reliable. It’s been proven by archaeology but from within itself, the Bible proves prophecies and predictions. It is dependable, not only the very word of God but it is a revelation from God.
What the Bible Says About Eternity
If we believe the Bible is true, then we can depend on what it says about eternity and where humanity will end up. Ecclesiates 3:11 says, he has put eternity into man’s heart. And the wonderful thing is that as humans we think about eternity. We think about life after death. No animal ever has that thought. Your dog, your cat, any pet you have never thinks about eternity. What happens after death? Their focus is on here and now, I’m getting food and comfortable, but in no way do they ever think about eternal things. Yet all of us at some time in our life have wondered and thought about eternity.
Eternity in Our Hearts
The Bible claims that God has put that in our hearts so that we might think about what the Lord Jesus Christ said about life and death and eternity. And if we were to believe the Bible, then we would believe that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. That’s what he said about himself and we would believe what the Bible says about him, that he was Immanuel, God with us. In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God.
The word was God and he has revealed himself to us in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. We would believe that he came from Heaven to Earth, that he always existed, because he was God in Heaven, but he came to Earth and showed himself to us so that we could know what God is like and would find the way to Heaven to be with God.
Jesus is the Very Son of God
Some people would claim that the Lord Jesus Christ was merely a good teacher, that he told stories with moral implications or meanings, but he wasn’t giving something that was definitive, that was certain, absolute truth. If we believe his claims about himself and what others said about him, then we would accept that he was the very son of God and is now in Heaven at the right hand of his father.
Those who were close to him looked at his life and attested to his perfection. Peter, who is a man of action, said of the Lord Jesus Christ. He did no sin and John, who was close to him, said in him was no sin. Paul later said he knew no sin. The Bible says he was totally without sin. And so if we believe that he was God manifest in the flesh, that he could not sin, did not sin, who told the truth, then we are faced with a challenge.

Jesus Christ Knows About Life and Death
Some people would say that he was a good teacher, but as we mentioned, did not always tell the absolute truth. It’s been said that when we think of the Lord Jesus, we’re left with three choices. He is either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord.
If he’s a liar it means he knew what he was saying was not true, but he presented his truth. If he’s a lunatic it means that he thought it was the truth and didn’t know any different. But he is telling the truth that he is Lord. He is the one who knows about life and death and eternity.
The Lord Jesus Christ Knows About Heaven and Hell
The Lord Jesus Christ spoke more about those who would suffer in what we call hell or the Lake of Fire than he did about Heaven and that was part of his concern for the souls of men and women, to let them know that there is a reality of life after death.
There are two choices, but the choice is made in time, not in eternity. The choice is made in life not after death. In two parables in Matthew 13, the Lord Jesus spoke of where the wicked, those who have rejected God’s offer of salvation, would end up. He says that they would end up in a place that is like a furnace of fire where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. In other words, a place of torment, of conscious realization of a life that’s been wasted, a rejection of God, of the Lord Jesus Christ’s offer of salvation, to accept him as savior.
He also speaks of those who are righteous, who have accepted the Lord Jesus as Savior, and the fact that they end up in a very different place. In a place that we call Heaven and the Bible describes that as a place where there is no pain, there is no sorrow, there is no parting. There are none of the things that mar and mark this world that have been caused by sin.
Is There Life After Death?
So is there life after death? There certainly is. And the choice of where you end up, where I end up is made in time, not in eternity. It is fixed here and now by what we think of the Lord Jesus Christ. If we believe him and we believe the Bible is the very word of God, then the choice is very clear.
The bible says if we accept him as our personal savior, then Heaven is open to us. By rejecting him and God’s offer of salvation through grace by faith, then we end up in a lost eternity, separated from God forever, but with thoughts, conscious thoughts of a life that was wasted and how God’s offer of salvation was rejected.
So the challenge to each one of us is what do we think about the Lord Jesus Christ? And what are we going to do about God’s offer of salvation? The Bible says, today is the day of salvation. The advice the Bible and every Christian would give is don’t delay except Christ today.
