What’s Under There?- Asking Jesus For Help

Just like the dirt hiding under your cupboards, your life can sometimes have a hidden mess too. Janis reminds us that by asking Jesus for help, we can be sure that He will “vacuum” it away!

What’s Under There?

Asking Jesus for help

While renovating our kitchen, built about 40 years ago, I was surprised to find things that were hidden under the cupboards. Things that would have devastated me if I knew they were there before.

I hate to tell you what I found. Besides the inevitable dirt and wood chips there were also roach bodies. Yuck. And either mouse or roach excrement. Double yuck.

Also while doing this renovation my husband decided we needed to take one of the walls right back to the studs to give him a firmer foundation to affix the cupboards.

As I cleaned up the mess with a heavy-duty vacuum, I thought about how this reflects our lives.

We keep many ugly things hidden away – sometimes not even knowing they’re there. But when we uncover them we need a strong vacuum to clean up the mess.

Asking Jesus For Help

Jesus is our vacuum!

He can clean every mess we have in our lives if we let Him. He may need to go deep – right down to our studs in order to rebuild us the way He wants.

God all ready sees the mess – he knows what we have hidden away. God knows the sin in our hearts. Yes I said sin because we all have it. We don’t want to but we do.

As God chips away, like a sculptor, He is refining us. He is creating a being that will be ready to take a place in God’s Kingdom.

Reading from Psalm 66:10 in The New International Version:

For you, God, tested us;
you refined us like silver

God Isn’t Finished With You Yet

I love the saying, “God is not finished with me yet.” And that’s a sure thing. Each day as I confess what it is in my heart He hears me and accepts and forgives me.

I have a ways to go but I also know God is faithful to show me exactly what needs renovating in my life.

Asking Jesus for help

Now that we have a sturdy, new, clean kitchen it will be a reminder to me to seek out all the unseen messes under the surface of my life. I will ask Jesus to reveal those things to me.

I hope that you will do the same thing. Ask to see what your messes are. Ask for Jesus to help clean them up.
