After Easter Thoughts – How To Follow Jesus
What should we do after Easter? Janis offers some ideas about how to follow Jesus more faithfully and effectively.

After Easter Thoughts
I would like to give you a few after Easter thoughts. It has felt like a long time – 40 days- of studying through John. There is so much in that Gospel message. But it’s past Easter and what do I do now? What lessons have I learned that will help me carry through until the next Easter?
Seek God
First I need to remember to seek God in everything I say or do. I don’t always do that. I think, then I act. But there is another important step. It should be: think, ask God and listen, then do as He says. I love what Oswald Chambers says on this subject:

We need to rely on the resurrection life of Jesus much deeper down than we do, to get into the habit of steadily referring everything back to Him.
Oswald Chambers
I learned that God moved into our neighbourhood because of the resurrection. He is here. He is now. I can ask Him anything at any time because He hears me.
Shine His Light
I now look for where God is placing me so I can shine His light. Sometimes it’s in the little things that I can do the most good. Oswald Chambers has this to say:
Let us practice the fine art of making every work a priestly ministration.
Oswald Chambers
Then there’s the junk in my spirit and heart that God still needs to clear out. Just as Jesus cleared the temple He is doing a daily work in me.
Watching What God Says
Watching what God says rather than what the world says is very important to me. Now is the era of “fake news” so I must look at everything with my eyes wide open in order to discern what is truth and always check with God too.
I know that it’s good to have wilderness experiences. Jesus went away to a spot by Himself. I need to do this too. I need to find a spot without distractions where I can be quiet and listen to God.
Following Jesus
Following Jesus and being religious are two different things. Oswald Chambers says:
If we are going to be ready for Jesus Christ, we have to stop being religious.
Oswald Chambers
Following Jesus is not a lofty lifestyle. I need to be spiritually real. I know that Jesus sent the Comforter to lead and guide me so I need to listen to Him.
Listening Closely
And finally, I want to listen closely to Him because I know I am His. Oswald Chambers says:
We run ahead of Him in a thousand and one activities, becoming so burdened with people and problems, that we don’t worship God, and we fail to intercede.
Oswald Chambers
My Prayer
Father, thank You for Easter, for Your sacrifice for us. Thank You for teaching us how to follow Jesus. Help us to focus on the spiritual and not rely on worldly things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
